15 Journalists Train on Parliamentary Reporting

The Gambia Press Union in collaboration with the National Assembly of The Gambia on Thursday 29th October commences training of fifteen Journalists from print and broadcast media on reporting and broadcasting Parliamentary sittings, sessions and issues concerning National Assembly matters.The training is taking place at Mansea Hotel at Kololi.

Addressing the participants, Mr. Modou Sise, the Clerk of the National Assembly indicated that the training package is a support from the United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP). The aim of the project according to him is to provide a platform to build the capacity of public and private media practitioners to enhance parliamentary democracy through responsible and effective Journalism.

Clerk Sise described the media as the fourth estate and should have access to geo-political matters on parliamentary proceedings. “Effective and fundamental Journalism is relevant to the democratisation of a nation as efficiency Journalism helps to scrutinised parliament and parliamentarians”, said Sise.

The outcome of the training is to ensure a platform that would build the capacity of the Journalists to enhance parliamentary democracy through effective media coverage.
