The Trumpet Newspaper has learnt from an announcement made by the United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, on 5 March 2019 that the Gambian born Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Madam Fatou Bom Bensouda is banned from entering the United States.
The reason is that Bensouda had opened a series of investigations into the crimes committed by US soldiers in war-torn Afghanistan.
According to the announcement by Mike Pompeo, the ban measure is not just about Fatou Bensouda but it also extends to the staffs who were involved in that investigation against US soldiers.
United States is not a signatory to ICC Rome Status which empowered the ICC to mount an investigation and prosecute people allegedly involved in war crimes and crime against humanity.
