Police prosecutor Superintendent M.D Mballow has fought with both tooth and nail to ensure that Karanta Darboe who is facing 19 criminal counts is remanded in prison pending the outcome of his criminal charges.
Karanta Darboe appeared before Magistrate Isatou Janneh on Wednesday 17 July 2019, facing 19 criminal charges ranging from obtaining money, goods and stealing among other things. When the charges were read to him he denied them all.
Superintended Mballow in his objection for the bail, appealed to the court to remand the accuse person pending the outcome of the case. He said the prosecution was with the believed that if the accused is giving bail he might abscond from the jurisdiction. The prosecutor said the accused person has started exhibiting such behavior. The season Police Prosecutor pointed out that the accused person has about 25 pending case files that are under investigation.
Superintended M.D Mballow reminded the court that the prosecution is aware that bail is a right but he also reminded the court that the interest of the public need to be considered.
Karanta Darboe the accused person asked the court to bulldoze the submission of the prosecution and grant him bail. He reminded the court that the alleged offenses are billable and that he has a right to be bailed.
However, in her ruling, Magistrate Janneh said bail is a right but that right is at the discretion of the court. She finally upheld the submission of the prosecution and remanded Karanta Darboe. The case was adjourned until 24 July.
