Bintou Nyabally, a witness of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), on Monday 14 October adduced before the Commission that whiles her and other supporters of the leader of United Democratic Party (UDP) were confronting soldiers that came to threaten them at the home of their incarcerated leader, the current head of State Mr. Adama Barrow and Lamin Cham a political adviser to Barrow, fled the scene and left only the women confronting the soldiers.
Mrs. Nyabally, who was a ardent support of Ousainou Darboe said on 9 May 2016, whiles returning from attending the Court trial of UDP executives at Banjul High Court, she was mercilessly beaten by officers of Police Intervention Unit (PIU), at around West field. She said she and others like Sukai Dahaba, an old man call Pa Njaga, Lilly Bojang, Kaddy Samateh, and her one month old baby Isha were mercilessly beaten.
She was able to escaped and seek sanctuary inside Jacaranda restaurant. Later she left for Ousainou Darboe’s home at Pipeline where a group of armed soldiers came threatens them with insults. She indicated that the armed soldiers ordered them to close the compound gate but Fatou Darboe and Ramou Darboe the daughter of Ousainou Darboe and other ladies came out and exchanged bitter foul words with the soldiers. The ladies stood their ground refused to heed to the threats from soldiers. Fatou Darboe from Bakau was carrying a big stick and asked the soldiers to enter the compound if they are man enough.
Whiles the soldiers were at the gate brandishing their weapons and attempting to force their way into Darboe’s compound, current President Adama Barrow and Lamin Cham the political adviser, were present at the scene both ran away and hide leaving the ladies behind confronting the menacing soldiers.
