IDA Bass Foundation Breaks Health Donor Record

The IDA Bass Foundation, a charitable organisation that donates medical care and Health materials support to unprivileged Gambians on different ailments such as kidney dialysis treatment has on Monday 25th January 2021, donated a record breaking amount of D34 Million amounting to 1.6 million surgical face masks.

Delivering the items, Alagie Jallow brother to Ida Bass Foundation, compliments the government’s effort and guidance to take perquisites measures and precautions to safeguard the population from the dangers of the virus. Mr. Jallow said the donation couldn’t have come at a better time than now when the government of the Gambia has registered the new covid-19 variant. He commended the government for the smooth transaction with the customs and the volunteers of the Foundation, and partners.

Permanent Secretary Ministry of Basis and Secondary Education (MOBSE), Mr. Moses Mendy received 500, 000 face masks on behalf of the Ministry, pointed out that education is a business for everyone as it is the only sector in every household. He added that the support will go a long way in complimenting the Ministry’s effort especially in the advent of the new variant COVID-19.

PS Mendy thanks the Foundation and assures them of proper use of the masks to the intended users as the first consignment supplied to students has been exhausted.

Lamin Dampha, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health duels on the misconceptions of the COVID-19 and consequently calls on the media to redouble their efforts in sensitising the public to change the mindset of the people in the face of the deadly pandemic.

PS Dampha called on the general public to cooperate with health officials in the fight against the Coronavirus by sticking to the health measures.

The 1.6 million face mask is the biggest health donation since the discovery of the virus in the Gambia in March 2020.
