Her Worship Elizabeth JC Dunn of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 21st September remanded two youth after pleading not guilty to three counts of criminal offence. The duo is charged by Police prosecutors for allegedly assaulting, attempting to commit felony and damage to property against Trumpet newspaper Editor Fabakary B. Ceesay.
Samba Jobe and Alieu Ceesay both in their mid twenties were jointly arraigned before Magistrate EJC Dunn and subsequently remanded after the charges were read out to them and Police Prosecutor Nuha Bojang applied for bail denial as the duo will likely jump bail.
Prosecutor Bojang narrated that the first accused person Demba Jobe is a habitual offender who has another matter in the same jurisdiction before another Magistrate. He produced a case file registration number before the court and tendered it as evidence. He added that in that particular case when the accused was granted bail he refused to appear before the Court.
The two young men Demba Jobe and Alieu Ceesay both assured the Court of their availability before the Court if granted bail.
However, after listening to their plea of not guilty and appeal for bail, Magistrate EJC Dunn ruled that it is evidence that accused person Demba Jobe has a case before another Court and refusing to appear before it as narrated by the prosecutor is a clear indication he is a flight risk. She added that both accused did not show any remorse as to the alleged crime and did not seem to care much about the matter.
She therefore remanded them and adjourned the case to 5th October for hearing.
