Health Ministry Ready to Combat COVID-19 Pandemic

The Ministry of Health on Monday 20th July received ten brand new ambulances, other medical equipment and incinerators to support COVID 19 response in The Gambia.

This came as the country heads towards the peak of the virus in the Country as the surge of the virus is rising at an alarming rate requiring a robust response. The government of the Gambia’s local funds amounting one hundred million Dalasis along with finances from the World Bank US10 million was used to purchase the materials.

Speaking to the press, Dr. Amadou Lamin Samateh Minister of Health said this is the first time in the country to inaugurate such medical equipment of world standard.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to the government of the Gambia and the World Bank for availing the funds to procure the state of the earth materials.

Mr. Momodou Tangara Minister of Foreign Affairs calls on the public to take the virus seriously and to observe the World Health organisation preventive measures.

Hon. Ousman Sillah National assembly Member for Banjul South and chairperson of National Assembly select Committee for health, assured the Minsters of his committee’s support in the fight against COVID 19.

Hon. Sillah said it is taxpayers’ money and they have to make sure the material are put into what it is meant and intended for.

The procured materials included 10 new ambulances, 60 Intensive Care Units beds (ICU), 6000, 000 surgical masks, 1.2 million gloves, 5000 oxygen masks, 4 ultrasound machines, 20, 000 face shields, 25, 000 personal protective equipment, 30, 000 respiratory (N95), 205 oxygen flowmeter, 3 digital 4D color ultrasound machines, 3 ultrasound scanner and 100 non touch thermometers.
