The Gambia Launches It’s First Ever National Security Policy.

The president of the Republic of The Gambia Adama Barrow, on Monday 10th June presided over the launching of the first ever National Security Policy of the Gambia.
The policy document which is part of the on going security sector reforms program of the Gambia government is designed to provide an overarching policy framework for the transformation of the country’s security sector. The policy document also seeks to establish effective proactive response for effective governance, civilian oversight and accountability over the security services in the country.
The president of the republic, his excellence Adama Barrow said the policy document is a sign of his government commitment for the fulfillment of the security reform as in shrine in the National Development Plan (NDP).
“ The National Security Policy is an outcome of series of long consultations and validation from different stakeholders which is in line with the NDP”.
The president further stated that the policy document provides a robust coherent of a national policy alliance to build national crime resilience.
The honourable Minister of Justice Abubacarr  Tambedou reiterated that the Gambian armed force shouldn’t be seen as enemies to the state, though they have failed to live up to expectations in the past.
The UN country representative Sharafinah Wakina said they will continue to support the Gambia through it’s democratisation process in the realization of the national development plan.
Other speaker includes Mai Ahmed Fatty special adviser to the president and retired colonel Momodou Badjie  National Security Adviser to the president who all lamented on the policy document which outlines the security concepts, opportunities and threats thus promoting good governance.
The policy document also maps out agendas that promotes gender equality.
