A very reliable and confidential information monitored by Trumpet Newspaper from the Defence Headquarters in Banjul, has it that officers of the United States (USA) Homeland Security are currently in the Gambia to mount an investigation into the findings and recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commissions (TRRC) and to interrogate some soldiers of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), who were mention in some of the gross human rights violations and have knowledge about the two Gambian-Americans who were murdered in the Gambia on orders of former President Yahya Jammeh.
According to the information, the Homeland Security officers have a list of six names all of whom are members of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), and have written to the Ministry of Defence to give them access to interrogate the six soldiers whom they believe have knowledge of the two missing Gambian-Americans Alagie Mamour Ceesay and Ebou Jobe. The said two Gambian-Americans went missing in the Gambia in May 2013 after they visited the West African nation.
The sources said, “US Homeland Security officers are currently in the Gambia and have already started interrogating the soldiers at the US Embassy after a green light from the Ministry of Defence”.
The interrogation, according to our source is been done secretly and the six soldiers involved are not aware of each other’s interrogation. “The process is been done one by one”, said the source.
It could be recalled that three former soldiers among the killer squad of the former regime commonly known as the “Junglers” Staff Sergeants Omar Oya Jallow, Amadou Chairman Badjie and Warrant Officer Class 2 Pa Ousman Sanneh all admitted their participation in killing of Alagie Mamud Ceesay and Ebou Jobe.
The trio testified before the TRRC and narrated their involvement in the operation that eliminated the two men accused of planning to overthrown the former regime by assassinating President Yahya Jammeh using sniper operation system that supposed to come from Guinea Bissau.
However, the three soldiers failed to locate the spot where Mr. Ceesay and Mr. Jobe were buried. But they confirmed that the men were killed and beheaded by fellow junglers Nfansu Nyabally and Malick Manga before they buried their headless bodies in former President Jammeh’s garden at Kanilai.
In September 2019, senior jungler Major Michael Sang Correa was arrested in US city of Denver by officers of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement for overstaying his visa duration. But behind the curtain, there are huge suspicions of his arrest be link to the murder of the two US citizens of Gambian decent. He is still under detention in USA.
The GAF spokesperson Major Lamin Sanyang cannot be reach for comments.
