The Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters has applauded the contribution of the metrology unit of the Department of Water Resources for its contribution towards the smooth landing and taking off offlights at the Banjul International Airport.
DPS Fanta BS Manneh was recently at the airport on a familiarisation tour of the work of the MET unit. The tour avail the deputy Permanent Secretary the opportunity to visit and get first-hand information on the operation and the contribution of the unit at the airport.
The tour was led by Mr. Tombong Komma, the Principal Computer engineer at the department of Water Resources. He took the DPS to the various units within the airport including the observatory room. Mr. Komma said part of the MET unit at the airport is to provide weather forecast to the aviation authority to help ensure smooth landing and taking off of flights.
The unit is equally responsible for sending the country’s weather to the Regional hub in Senegal, Dakar, where countries in the region shares weather data for forecasting.
After the tour of all the metrology units at the airport, the Deputy Permanent Secretary assured MET staff that she would transmit all their successes and challenges to the Ministry. She advised MET staff to continue to collaborate with other partners at the airport for the interest of the country.
