Gambia Launches Network of Financial Reporters

Journalists in the Gambia have launched a “Network of Financial and Tax Reporters (NFTR) in a ceremony held on Saturday 3 August 2019. The event was held at the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), conference hall.

In his welcoming statement, the president of the network Abulie Noukeh expressed the organisation’s readiness to enlighten society about the importance of paying taxes to government. He gave a quick background of the setting of the network. Noukeh thanked the various stakeholders for supporting the launching of the network.

Ousman Bah who deputized for the director general of The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) said his institution is very much proud to be associated with the network that that aim to educate and sensitizes the general public on the importance of taxes and laws that GRA administer.

‘The formation of this network is in line with on-going GRA strategy to engage, educate and sensitize the general public, including key stakeholders involved in the implementation of its mandate,’ Bah said. He said as the fourth estate,  the role of journalists in promoting tax compliance cannot be over emphasized. Bah noted that the GRA management counts on the continuous support of the network in its efforts to implement government tax reforms initiatives aimed at improving revenue collection for national development.

“As a revenue administration, we will continue to Value and appreciate the partnership with the network of financial and Tax reporters Gambia chapter,’ Bah said. He called on network members to always engage the Authority on matters of taxation to enhance greater understanding and appreciation of the taxes being administered.
