Smart Business Group Donates Sanitary Materials to Prison

Smart business group an indigenous business company under the stewardship of Mr. Omar Njie, on Wednesday 21st July 2020, presented sanitary products and materials to the Gambia Prison Service for ensuring a COVID-19 free Gambia.

These materials comprise of five thermometers, fifty bottles of bleach, sixty bags of laundry soap, fifteen buckets and one thousand eight hundred face masks.

Speaking on behalf the business entity, Mr. Omar Njie said revelations from the recent Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) hearings from staff of the prisons services has triggered his group to feel the need to donate cognizant of the vulnerability of the inmates to COVID-19. Njie stated that prisoners deserve to be cared and the prison should be seen as a rehabilitation centre.

Speaking on  behalf of the Director of the prison Service, Saikou Kawsu Gassama, Director of administration indicated the gift were timely as it will go a long way in complimenting prison department’s COVID-19 plans which the administration is working on.

“The prison department condition needs support locally and internationally as testimonies from public hearings have exposed the major loopholes of the institutions, but we are doing what we can to make some adjustments with the little we have at hand”.
